we hit the road and boarded the Amtrak, destination: Chicago, IL. For the first three hours of the train ride, we sat in front of a grandma with a disturbing cough who clapped her hands to the music from her ipod. Once we reached Albany, she graciously gave up her seats to two women who literally did not stop jabbering until we stepped off of the train in Chicago 19 hours later. Besides the chatty-Kathies, we had a surprisingly enjoyable train experience. We watched movies, read books, made good use of a some patron (compliments of Amanda - thanks for that!), and got some pretty good sleep. All told, far less painful than we thought it might be. We can't say that we recommend it, but it is an alternative worth looking in to.
