The Grand Bazaar

The Grand Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world with over 4,000 shops selling everything from leather to hand-made carpets to spices and Turkish delights: 

When going to the Grand Bazaar, we recommend a few things:
1. Don't buy anything for the first 30 minutes. Just walk around and look at things... and even act a bit interested in them. But, don't buy them.
2. When acting interested, try to ascertain the "final price". (The first price given is usually a super high number that they throw out there hoping some unsuspecting, unknowing tourist will just pay it.)
3. Don't be afraid to walk away. They will almost always stop you and lower the price. And, if they allow you to walk away, there is another place with the exact same thing just around the corner.

As much fun as it was to go to the Grand Bazaar, we found that the prices for things like Turkish delights and dried fruits were much cheaper just outside the market at little street vendors:
