Hace Mal Tiempo

A head high swell is predicted for Sunday and Monday at a surf spot called La Herradura near where "coincidentally" we are staying.  Although the water is only about 60 degrees F, murky, and generally unappealing looking, we have decided to stay in Miraflores until Monday in hopes of some fun surf.  While we await the waves, we continue to explore the city.

Todd says, "if 'ruins' are a highlight of an area, perhaps the area is not very exciting".  Kristina is on the hunt for excitement.  Today we visited the pre-Incan ruins called Huaca Pucllana:
The structure was built of adobe and clay around 500 AD.  It is believed that the pyramid served as a ceremonial and administrative center for the city of Lima.  Regrettably, Todd is still not convinced that ruins are very exciting and is reconsidering his Broadway Musical commentary.  However, he has come to terms with the fact that Machu Picchu is in his near future.

As the photos we have posted show, the sun rarely, if ever, shines in this area of the world.  (Go ahead and try to find a shadow in any of them!)  Our suspicions were confirmed by a local who told us that the weather is overcast almost all year long, except for the days that it is foggy.  We are beginning to understand the phrase: "Hace mal tiempo."
