Stellenbosch is “Easy” and Good!

Yesterday we rented a car and made the much anticipated one hour drive from Cape Town to Stellenbosch for an afternoon and evening of wine tasting. Our first stop was the Ernie Els vineyard which did not disappoint!
For R60 ($10 US) the two of us sampled four good reds and a Merlot while checking out the beautiful scenery and occasionally looking over the knoll to see the progress of a VERY nearby fire.
It’s nice to see that the “Big Easy” is putting his tournament winnings to good use!

Our second stop was a neighboring vineyard called Guardian Peak where we tried 9 wines… not one worth mentioning.

To finish off our night, we enjoyed an African buffet dinner in a tree house at Moyo restaurant in the Spier estate.
The food was so-so but the ambiance more than made up for it!

Before we left Stellenbosch, we stopped on the side of the road to capture a few photos of the fire that continued to rage along the mountainside leaving 10 homes burnt to the ground in its wake.
An update from this morning:  the fire is relatively contained, however our bowels are not.  We think there was something not so great about our buffet dinner...
