Via Del Amore

Cinque Terre is another one of those places (like Punta Del Este) of which everyone is constantly saying, "You have to go to Cinque Terre".  Now that we are here, we can happily say that the trip is worth making.

Cinque Terre (meaning five lands) is a strip of coastline along the Mediterranean Sea comprised of five villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.

Reasonably priced hostels in the villages themselves were difficult to find on short notice, so we found a hostel (where you get exactly what you pay for) next to the train station in a nearby town called La Spezia.  After dumping our luggage in our room, we jumped on an 11 minute train to Manarola, the second village.  Here we found a great spot to swim in the Mediterranean Sea before hiking the trail connecting Manarola to Riomaggiore called the Via Del Amore which is marked with locks throughout the trail symbolizing eternal love for the owners of the locks.
Today, we are heading out to explore some of the other "lands" and the hiking trails between them!
